The Brazilian Football Confederation will this week appeal to the FIFA sports court to try to have the sanctions lifted on Neymar. The Barça striker was sentenced to four-game suspension during the Copa America and is expected to miss the first two games of the qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup.

However, some voices in Brazil have backed Neymar’s suspension, including influential former Seleçāo star Tostāo, who hopes the punishment will help teach the Brazil captain a lesson about his on-pitch behaviour.

Brazil do not yet know the name of their first opponents, with the draw for the fixtures to be made on 25 July in St. Petersburg.
