UAE Arabian Gulf League side Al Shabab are set to complete the signing of Atlético Mineiro forward Jô.

The Dubai based club confirmed on their official Twitter feed, as cited by the National, that the former Manchester City man was close to agreeing terms on a three year contract.

Jô is believed to be a replacement for fellow Brazilian Edgar and will join former Blackburn Rovers midfielder Carlos Villanueva, Azizbek Haydarov and Henrique Luvannor as part of the group of players that will fill Al Shabab’s foreign quota. He will also work under manager Caio Júnior.

Jô is contracted to Atlético Mineiro until May 2016, but his future with the club has become increasingly uncertain.

The 28 year-old had been involved in a series of disputes that led to him being temporarily released in November 2014 and even though he was reinstated in January of this year, he has remained on the fringes.

He did, admittedly, score the winner in the Campeonato Mineiro Final win over Caldense, but across the Brasileirão and Copa Libertadores de América, he has featured just six times, scoring once.

After a mixed time in Europe with CSKA Moscow, Manchester City, Everton and Galatasaray, Jô had seemingly rebuild his career with Atlético, following a spell with Internacional.

He was part of a side that won the 2013 Copa Libertadores de América and the Recopa Sudamericana and Copa do Brasil a year later, while he was also a surprise star of Brazil’s 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup triumph.

The problems he got involved in with Atlético however, seemed to derail him and a move to Al Shabab is now seemingly the outcome, as he looks to return once more.
