Football legend Pele has called for honest people to step forward and make their voice heard amid corruption allegations at FIFA.

It has been over a week since the FBI and Swiss police arrested officials at the FIFA headquarters but the storm still hasn’t died down. New stories of corruption continue to be released with the latest involving Ireland.

In 2009 the Irish FA were apparently paid €5 million to withdraw their appeal to be reinstated at the 2010 World Cup. A blatant handball by Thierry Henry knocked Ireland out at the qualifying stages which caused outrage.

Pele now wants an honest group of people who can govern football correctly.
“This is our responsibility to protect this magnificent sport for future generations. I’m not saying this only for players like me, but for everyone involved in sport. We must treat everyone with honesty, respect and fair play on and off the field. FIFA need honest people it is important.”
