Rafael da Silva’s presence as a substitute on Monday night did, at least, confirm the Brazilian was still alive.

The following night he was back at the stadium to coolly lob Tottenham Under-21s’ goalkeeper with his left foot from 30 yards, as the right-back picked exactly the right time to play well.

Had Antonio Valencia been in the same scenario, the likelihood is he would have pondered for a few more seconds before passing backwards – with his right foot.
