David Luiz has revealed how he and his Paris Saint Germain team mates always had belief that they could defeat Chelsea even when down to ten men.
PSG had a mountain to climb when Zlatan Ibrahimovic was sent off early in the second leg but fought back to draw 2-2 and go through the Champions League tie on away goals.
“We never stopped believing. The positivity in the locker room at halftime was unbelievable. Everyone thought we were going to win. Go on the pitch and do what it takes to get through.”
Luiz is relieved PSG have finally beaten a big name opponent in Europe.
“It’s the crowning moment of many years of work. We’ve hit the crossbar in recent years, but this time we managed to advance in the Champions League. We strive for improvement all the time.”
