Midfielder Diego has explained how he was lured into joining Fenerbahçe.

The 29 year-old signed with the Spor Toto Süper Lig holders on a free transfer in July 2014, following the conclusion of his contract with Atlético de Madrid.

Speaking to the Fenerbahçe Newspaper February edition, Diego noted that it was the size of the club and their ambition that convinced him to sign.

“Fenerbahçe is a huge club, this attracted me and the club officials convinced me with their project during the negotiation process,” he said, as reported by website Turkish-Football.

Diego’s spell with Fenerbahçe has so far yielded mixed results. The Brazil international – capped 33 times – has managed just one goal and four assists in 16 appearances so far this season and only played 90 minutes on five occasions.

Despite this, he has started Fenerbahçe’s last three Spor Toto Süper Lig matches and is seemingly coming into favour with manager İsmail Kartal.

During his widespread career, Diego has won major honours in Brazil (two with Santos), Portugal (four with Porto), Germany (two with Werder Bremen) and Spain (two with Atlético), while this season, he’s also lifted the Turkish Super Cup.
