Lazio midfielder Ederson has explained why he blocked a deadline day move to Sampdoria.

The Brazil international – capped once – was set to be part of a swap deal involving Argentine forward Gonzalo Bergessio, but, according to Lazio Technical Area Coordinator Igli Tare, he refused to answer his phone and the transfer had to be cancelled.

Writing on his Twitter and Instagram accounts, Ederson has chosen to explain his motives and insists he wasn’t given enough time to weigh up the move.

“I am sorry to see all this controversy, all these insults and threats because of something I never even had the chance to consider,” he wrote, as reported by website Football Italia.

“I always dreamed of playing for Lazio and tried to give my best for this jersey. That is precisely why I think it is difficult to make such a decision with less than two hours left of the transfer window.

“We have an excellent squad, are doing well and I do not want to stir up trouble that can destabilise the team.

“Therefore, I will continue as always, concentrated on the achievement of our targets.”

Ederson has had a mixed time at Lazio since arriving from Lyon on a free transfer in July 2012. The 29 year-old, who cost Les Gones a reported fee of €14.9 million when they signed him OGC Nice, has scored just five times in 48 appearances since moving to Rome and featured just three times this term.
