Roberto Carlos has been confirmed as the new Manager of Spor Toto Süper Lig side Akhisar Belediyespor.

The former Brazil international – capped 125 times – was announced in the role on Friday and replaces Mustafa Reşit Akçay, who departed in December.

Roberto Carlos left his previous managerial role at Sivasspor in the same month. After leading the Yiğidolar to a 5th place finish last season, the 41 year-old had struggled this term and departed with his side positioned in the relegation zone.

Akhisar Belediyespor, in contrast, are currently 11th. They were however, defeated 3-1 at Bursaspor on Saturday and have now not won in ten Süper Lig matches.

Roberto Carlos’s first game in charge will be at home to Eskişehirspor, who are just one point adrift of Belediyespor in the standings.

The former Anzhi Assistant saw his then Sivasspor side draw 1-1 with Eskişehirspor earlier in the campaign and will hope for a victory with his new employees when they come to Manisa 19 Mayis Stadium on 24th January.
