President Enrique Cerezo has admitted Atlético de Madrid only received 50% of the €38 million fee Chelsea paid for Diego Costa.

The Brazilian born forward has settled quickly and been an instant success in England, with nine goals in ten appearances, and Cerezo concedes that Atlético didn’t get much compensation ffrom selling arguably their most prominent player.

“He is one of the best strikers in the world. His departure was hastened because we had a weak moment in which we couldn’t say no,” he said, as reported by AS.

“If it was to happen now, he wouldn’t go. The economic issue hasn’t been good for us as we got 50% of what was said. It was more about money for him.”
