Chelsea manager José Mourinho has conceded he is powerless to stop Diego Costa playing for Spain.

The Brazilian born forward returned from international duty injured following the last round of matches and though Mourinho admits he cannot afford to lose Costa, he insists he will not try and block him from being involved in next month’s games against Belarus and Germany.

“That"s not my call, that"s not my decision," stated the tactician, as reported by Sky Sports.

“I"m nobody to stand in the way. I cannot stop him from going. The only thing I can say is what everybody knows. He was having problems in Chelsea and we managed to keep him playing.

“But after the national team we lost him for four matches. Crystal Palace, Maribor, Shrewsbury [Town] and Manchester United. Four matches in three different competitions."
