French club Le Havre have today quashed rumours of a move for former Brazilian international forward Adriano – as it emerged they could not afford him.

Despite the powerhouse striker being invited to watch the French second division side face Arles-Avignon on Friday, the news was confirmed by club president Jean Pierre Louvel, speaking with AFP:

“Adriano is invited to watch the match against Arles-Avignon and will kick off the game.” He said during a phone interview, before then confirming that the clubs financial restrictions were the main stumbling block.

“Adriano will not be hired by the current directors of the club to play in January. That will not happen, because our budget does not permit a contract like this.”

The news may well come as a disappointment to the former Internazionale star Adriano, who has only managed 17 competitive appearances in the past four years and has been without a club since Atlético Paranaense terminated his contract in April.
