Former Brazil striker Fred is hungry for goals ahead of his club’s top of the table clash with Campeonato Brasileiro leaders Cruzeiro tomorrow.

Fluminense, for whom Fred has played since 2009, currently sit fifth in the Brasileirão table and a victory gives them both an excellent chance of entering the G-4, as well as enabling them to close the gap at the top. Cruzzeiro sit top of the league with an eight point advantage before the season has even reached the halfway stage.

And tomorrow, Fred, who wore the No. 9 for the Seleção at this summer1s World Cup, wil play the 500th game of his professional career.

Yesterday, he netted three times during the club’s training session at their headquarters in Laranjeiras. Fred looked in inspired form, and tomorrow’s contest should have a special significance for the forward. Cruzeiro was the club where he made his name before moving to French outfit Lyon.

Up until last year, the striker had never celebrated a goal against his former club, even in 2009. With Flu fighting to save themselves from relegation, Fred netted twice in a thrilling 3-2 win for the Carioca club.

This season, under coach Cristovão Borges, Fluminense have managed to amass 30 points and sit 12 points off the top.
