Barcelona defender Daniel Alves is unlikely to see out the final year of his contract with the Catalan club, according to reports.
Sport, as cited by Football Espana, claims that the 31 year-old will be told that he is not needed for the 2014/15 season.
The newspaper goes on to state that Barcelona Head Coach Luis Enrique wants Fiorentina’s Juan Cuadrado to be his right full-back, with Martín Montoya as the Colombia international’s reserve.
Alves, a £30 million signing from Sevilla in July 2008, has a contract that expires in July 2015 and had been expected to remain at Barça until then.
Sport suggests that Enrique’s concerns about the Brazil international’s increasing injury problems has forced him to push for a departure this summer and that Alves will start assessing his options when he arrives for training on Tuesday.
The right-back was initially strongly linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain, as part of an exchange with Marquinhos, but after negotiations stalled, the Ligue 1 club secured a loan agreement for Toulouse’s Serge Aurier and now have no requirement for Alves.
If the Juazeiro native does leave Barcelona, it will bring to an end a six year association with the Blaugrana, in which he’s won 16 major honours.
