The respective head coaches of Corinthians and Palmeiras have exchanged pleasantries ahead of their big meeting this Sunday in the Brasileirao.

Mano Menezes and Ricardo Gareca were both in gracious mood ahead of the game, the former praising the Palmeiras boss: “I met Gareca as a football player, he was a great player.”

“He is starting to work at Palmeiras, bringing new ideas and a new methodology. He really collaborates with Brazilian football and this should be a professional goal when you work outwith your country.”

Argentine Gareca responded: “I think that Menezes is a very important technician, and he directed the national team. I think the work of the Brazilian coaches is very good.”

“We (Palmeiras) have to improve a lot, from the start of the match. I believe we will succeed.”

Hosts Corinthians go into the game in second place in the championship, albeit five points behind leaders Cruzeiro; Palmeiras, on their first season back in the top flight, are in 12th position after 11 rounds of fixtures.
