Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has praised Neymar for an incredible World Cup campaign.

Brazil may have ended their home World Cup disastrously but the 22-year-old enjoyed an impressive tournament.

Neymar scored four goals in the five matches he featured in before sustaining his back injury and his departure most likely played a part in Brazil’s 7-1 and 3-0 thrashings to Germany and the Netherlands respectively.

Bartomeu praised Neymar to the Barcelona official club website, he said: “Until the injury, [Neymar] was having an incredible tournament.

"Despite his youth, his progress as a footballer and his leadership made a mark on the Brazil team.

“We have been close to him since the injury, the medical services have been in contact with him and his family."

The Catalan president admits it was a nasty shock seeing his prize asset suffer an injury but he and everyone at Barcelona are confident Neymar will get fit again soon.

He added: "It was a nasty shock for all football fans, especially those of Brazil and Barca.

“I hope he gets fit again soon and I wish him all the best. He is very young and will have plenty more chances to win things for his country."
