Brazilian forward Neto Berola has vowed to “give everything I have” after joining Al Wasl on a year long loan from Atlético Mineiro.
The 26 year-old was part of the side that won the 2013 Copa Libertadores, but has made just two substitute appearances in the 2014 Brasileirão and is seemingly deemed surplus to requirements.
Berola has been signed by Al Wasl to add some more firepower upfront, after a disappointing 2013/14 season that saw them finish 12th in the Arabian Gulf League – one place above the relegation zone – and net just 32 goals in 26 matches.
With expectations high, Berola is eager not to disappoint.
This will be my first experience outside Brazil and I want to make it a successful one,” he said, as reported by The National. “So I will work hard, try to adapt quickly and give everything I have to the team’s cause.
“With the support of the fans, our performance on the pitch will improve and hopefully we will achieve the desired results.”
Berola’s Head Coach at Al Wasl is Jorginho, who as a player won the 1989 Copa América and 1994 FIFA World Cup with Brazil. The Cheetahs have been coached by the likes of Joel Santana, Diego Maradona, Bruno Metsu and Héctor Cúper in the past, but Berola is excited to work with Jorginho.
“Jorginho is a big coach in Brazilian football, and his presence here was one of the most important reasons for my decision to join the club,” he continued. “I also wanted a new experience outside Brazil, so I thank the Wasl management for giving me this opportunity and showing trust in me.
“I hope I can live up to the expectations of the club and the fans, and satisfy their ambitions.”
A further motivation for Berola is the opportunity to play alongside fellow Brazilian Ricardo Oliviera. Whether the 34 year-old will remain at Al Wasl is, however, in slight doubt. Berola’s arrival means there is four foreigners in the squad, but only three can be registered. As a result, one of Oliveira, Emmanuel Culio or Edson Puch will have to be moved on.
