Manchester City have announced Brazilian midfielder Fernando has joined the club from Porto.

The 26-year-old will wear the number six shirt at the Etihad Stadium and according to BBC Sport moves for a fee in the region of £12 million.

The defensive midfielder had been with Porto for seven years after joining in 2007 and enjoyed a wealth of success in Portugal. Fernando won four league titles as well as the Europa League in 2011.

He also won two Taça de Portugal cups and five Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira trophies.

The former Brazil under-20 international came close to moving to England in January but Manchester City couldn’t complete the deal but six months later they have got their man.

Fernando will be the second Brazilian in the City squad joining Fernandinho who is competing in the World Cup with Brazil.

Now, the former Porto ace will hoping to follow in the footsteps of Fernandinho by performing well in Manchester and earning a senior international call-up.
