The Arena das Dunas in Natal has succombed to flooding ahead of the stadium’s last World Cup game this coming Tuesday afternoon.

The custom-built stadium in the North-East of Brazil was constructed between 2011 and the start of the tournament, and has so far been the venue for Mexico’s 1-0 win over Croatia and USA’s 2-1 victory over Ghana.

A burst pipe has brought water into the media centre at the Arena das Dunes and officias have hurried to stress that the game between Uruguay and Italy will take place with the minimum of fuss.

Group D’s final fixture will determine which of the two nations will join the shock-happy Costa Rica team in reaching the second round of the World Cup.

Arena das Dunes will host no further games in the competition after Tuesday, but the venue will serve as the new home for Brazilian second division side America Futebol Clube.
