Former Arsenal forward Eduardo will sing both national anthems in Thursday’s World Cup opener in São Paulo.

The Croatian international moved to Zagreb from his South American homeland when he was 15. He has since decided to become a citizen of Croatia and play for the national team.

In an interview with SNTV, his mother Joelma da Silva said: “I’m rooting for Eduardo da Silva, I understand that it is very important for him, but I’m also rooting for Brazil.

“He has said he will sing two anthems. He’s Croatian for work. In his heart, he’s Brazilian.”
