Former Italian midfielder Gennaro Gattuso believes Brazil are the clear favourites for the 2014 World Cup because of home conditions and the confidence they generated thanks to the Confederations Cup.

The 36-year-old spoke to Sky Sport Italia today, with Football Italia reporting his comments on the upcoming tournament.

Gattuso said: “I believe that the Brazil side is a step ahead of everyone else.

“They have something more thanks to the environmental conditions and they showed this in the Confederations Cup. Moreover, they can count on the Brazilian public, who will be highly charged as always.”

Behind Brazil, Gattuso sees two other countries who can also consider themselves as genuine favourites for the World Cup.

The former AC Milan player foresees Germany and Argentina enjoying stellar tournaments.

He added: “Behind them I see Germany, who in these competitions always come forward.

“They have strong individuals and play well as a squad. Finally I would consider Argentina.”
