Real Madrid defender Marcelo, who lifted the Champions league trophy with the Spanish side last wee, says that he knows a starting berth in Luiz Felipe Scolari’s Brazil team is not guaranteed and that hard work and dedication are what’s needed to feature at this sumer’s World Cup.

Marcelo, 26, told reporters: “I don’t feel like an automatic choice. If I was to say that I’d be disrespectful to Maxwell.”

“We are all in the same boat, fighting for a position, I want to play and he wants to play and we are here to help the squad. I don’t feel comfortable.”

Brazil’s two left-backs have experienced successful seasons, both winning their domestic leagues and having impressive cup runs.

However, in Scolari’s initial training sessions, his preferred XI has featured Marcelo on the left side of a back four and there are no reasons to suggest that this will change before the tournament gets under way.
