Jonathan has admitted he isn’t sad to miss out of Luiz Felipe Scolari’s World Cup squad, he just hopes Brazil can win this summer’s tournament.

The Internazionale defender was never truly in the running and when he spoke to BeIN Sport and Sport Mediaset this week, he in fact revealed his delight that team mate Hernanes had made the 23-man list.

“No, I’m not sad, in fact I’m delighted for all the guys who did get called up like Maicon and Hernanes, who now plays for Inter,” Jonathan said.

“I know they were hard calls for Scolari to make because there are so many good players in every position.

“I hope Brazil can do well in the World Cup, because we’re playing at home in front of lots of supporters. Let’s hope we win it.”

Although very few would have raised an eyebrow that Jonathan missed out, some football romantics would have liked to have seen AC Milan’s Kaká and Atlético Mineiro’s Ronaldinho given another chance.

Felipão unsurprisingly didn’t pick the duo and whilst the Internazionale defender acknowledged that was a shame, he believes other players will show their worth to Brazil.

Jonathan added: “Of course it’s a shame, but that’s football.

“You can never know the way it’s going to go. Other big players will definitely come in like Neymar and others who are shining in Brazil and will also shine in Europe.”
