Internazionale midfielder Hernanes admitted he foresaw the Derby della Madonnina going differently on Sunday night and wasn’t happy that his side failed to win.

AC Milan were able to celebrate victory thanks to Nigel de Jong’s 65th minute header and it left Hernanes disappointed.

The Brazilian spoke to Inter Channel after the game and said: “I’d hoped the derby would go differently, sadly that’s not the way it went, we need to realise we got it wrong.

“Our shape wasn’t good out there, had we begun the match not thinking about the result we would have been more positive and made the most of the space on the pitch. We struggled when they raised the tempo in the second half.”

The former Lazio midfielder praised the attacking quality of Milan and felt they were in much better shape than Inter.

Hernanes added: “They’re a very attacking side but they leave a lot of space: what we wanted to do was control things at the back and then break.

“We did well at the start, then we settled and they took hold of the contest and had better shape than us.”
