Clarence Seedorf has had his say on the racial abuse Dani Alves received recently and believes any similar incidents in the future should be punished the same way Donald Sterling has faced from the National Basketball Association this week.

After racist remarks from Sterling were released to the public, he was banned from the league for life and received a hefty fine from the NBA. In addition to this he has also been prohibited from attending any games or participating in any business decisions.

When the AC Milan boss spoke to BBC Football Focus, he revealed he “loved” Alves’ reaction to the incident but called for strict punishment for any offenders and listed the actions by the NBA as an example.

“I loved it,” Seedorf smiled when asked about how the Barcelona man dealt with the incident. “That is how we treat it, because that is a strong message.

“That is saying that we stand above the few stupid people who behave in a bad way.

“He showed strength to be on another level and the authorities need to go and pick those people out and abandon them from football for always.”

Seedorf then turned his attention to what should be done when this happens next time and the former Botafogo captain is firm in his belief.

He said: “These things should not happen. It is disrespectful. We can talk about racism, not racism, discrimination.

“I think that all bad behaviour should be punished, strongly. As we have had a great example of in the States in the last days.”
