Internazionale defender Jonathan Moreira has thanked head coach Walter Mazzarri for giving him a chance.

The 27 year-old initially struggled to make an impact when signed from Santos in July 2011 and was eventually sent on loan to Parma.

Having started to come into the team under Andrea Stramaccioni last season, he has now grown into one of Inter’s key players this term.

Jonathan believes his resurgence is down to Mazzarri, who was appointed in the summer, and is now confident in his role at right wing-back.

“I owe a lot to the boss,” he said, as reported by Football Italia. “He has shown faith in me and he lets me play my football.

“I always need to mark the right man defensively, but then I also have the freedom to go forward and create assists or get goals myself.”
