Ecuador midfielder Frickson Erazo has spoken of his huge relief at Flamengo’s Carioca state championship triumph after it was he who gave away the penalty that had Vasco da Gama on the closests of brinks of winning the tournament themselves in Sunday’s second leg showdown.

The Flamengo new boy’s error allowed Douglas to score from 12 yards and, leading into the 90th minute, it looked all over for the ‘home’ side at the Maracana until Araujo’s last gasp equaliser.

“After the penalty I was very upset but after… there were many emotions as you can imagine- it is a penalty an then you are champions.”

“I have work to do to improve but for now we can enjoy this title.”

The Carioca win is Flamengo’s 33rd in history and first since 2011 as they prepare for the start of the Brasileiro this weekend, when they will face Goias in a home tie.
