Former Santos midfielder Walter Montillo remains hopeful of being selected by Argentina for this summers World Cup, despite moving to China.

The 29 year-old, who has been capped six times by the Albiceleste, left Santos to join Shandong Luneng Taishan in January for €7.5 million.

Despite no longer playing in one of the world’s more illustrious leagues, Montillo is confident he can still catch Argentina head coach Alejandro Sabella’s attention if he impresses in China.

“It goes without saying that I want to return to Argentina’s national team and represent my country at the World Cup,” he told FIFA.com.

“I had played in a couple of (World Cup) qualifying games but unfortunately I was not called up for our last fixtures. I hope I can earn my place back through my performances with Shandong.”
