The Spanish newspaper Marca has reported on the Brazilian’s current struggle as he fails to reproduce the kind of performances that football fans worldwide know he is capable of.

Since returning from an ankle injury, the 22-year-old has only scored one goal and has failed to perform as is expected of a player whose transfer fee seems to rise each day.

“Tata (Martino, Barcelona coach) has given him the minutes to prove himself, but he seems disconnected to what is going on, getting involved far too little,” reported the Spanish news outlet.

“Fans have grown impatient. In the game against Almeria, a few boos and whistles were heard. Last Wednesday, he heard them again when he was taken off.”

Neymar starred for his country in this month’s friendly victory over South Africa, bagging a hat-trick in a 5-1 win. This form, however, has not been replicated for the Catalan club and will worry Brazilians in the lead-up to this year’s World Cup.
