Paris Saint-Germain defender Thiago Silva will receive the Samba Gold trophy on Sunday before PSG’s Ligue 1 match against Marseille at the Parc des Princes.
The trophy was won by the Seleção skipper and honours the best Brazilian player currently playing in Europe during 2013
With 24% of votes, Silva was crowned winner of the trophy for the third consecutive time and largely outperformed everybody else. In second place was Bayern Munich defender Dante who earned 15% of the votes, and Chelsea’s midfielder Oscar was third with 8% of the votes.
The award was organized in 2007, the same time sambafoot.com was established. The website is dedicated to revealing the latest Brazilian football news and is available in numerous languages.
Last year’s election saw the participation of nearly 100,000 users and former stars. Brazilian’s Marcio Amoroso and 67-year-old Tostão were among those to vote.
