Marco Materazzi has ended his war of words with Brazilian defender Lúcio it seems following his latest comments.

Materazzi angered the Palmeiras defender recently by suggesting that the 35-year-old should think about retiring.

The experienced Brazilian hit back though by stating that the Italian went onto the pitch trying to hurt players and said he was a ‘bad character’ at Inter Milan.

Many may have expected the former team mates to end their feud there but Materazzi has been speaking about it again although this time tried to play down the incident and thanked Lúcio.

Football Italia reported the 40-year-old’s quotes, he said: “I saw in his reaction things that perhaps had been long been on the tip of the tongue.

“His was a story I have already told you several times, that I am always going to be grateful to him for helping me win.

“A player who has won a World Cup should not be discussed.”

We now wait to see if Lúcio will respond again, although considering Materazzi wasn’t as disrespectful this time it seems this war of words is over.

The Palmeiras defender will now hope to concentrate on his playing career and getting fit for his new club.
