Reports suggest that United have identified Rafa Alcântara – commonly known as Rafinha and younger brother of Bayern Munich’s Thiago – to form part of the their midfield next season.

The 21-year-old is currently impressing on loan with Celta Vigo and Barcelona are looking to fast-track him into their first-team plans when he returns at the end of the season.

Manchester United will be hoping to persuade the youngster that he can continue his development at Old Trafford.

Rafinha’s father, however, recently stated that his son, a Brazil Under-20 international that previously played youth football for Spain, has hopes of staying at the Catalan club.

“He is a Barcelona player. We don’t know what will happen in the future, if he will return or be loaned again,” said Mazinho.

“But Rafinha is working hard to play for Barcelona in the future.”
