Atletico Mineiro kick started their state championship campaign with a resounding victory away to URT last night, a result which leaves their opponents in the bottom half of the Mineiro 1 division.
The Serie A side were far too much to handle for the hosts and were three goals to the good by half time, thanks to strikes from Andre, Edcarlos and Michel. Mineiro continued after the braek unabated and added further goals through Guilherme and Andre to seal an emphatic win.
The result takes Mineiro up to fifth in the table on eight points, six behind national champions Cruzeiro, with whom they drew in the past week.
