Brazilian midfielder Diego scored on his Atletico Madrid debut as his new side thrashed Real Sociedad and in the process moved to the summit of La Liga.

Having been introduced into the action with the score at 1-0 following David Villa’s first half goal, Atletico strolled to victory at the Vicente Calderon after further goals from Diego Costa and Miranda.

But it was Diego who wrapped up a fine 4-0 win against Champions League contenders Sociedad, and the little Brazilian immediately looks at home.

Having spent some time on loan at Atletico in the 2011-12 season, Diego made a permanent return to the Spanish capital in the recent winter transfer window from German side Wolfsburg. He previously played in Portugal and Italy as well.

With 33 Brazil caps to his name, a bid to make this year’s World Cup squads seems to be in the offing for Diego after a second debut for La Liga contenders Atletico.
