Botafogo midfielder Nicolás Lodeiro will not be joining Beşiktaş on loan, according to Fogão director Sidnei Loureiro.
The 24 year-old had been strongly linked with a move to Turkey, with some Beşiktaş representatives reported as saying a deal was close to completion.
In a bid to end the speculation, Loureiro has released a strong statement insisting that Lodeiro is staying at Botafogo.
“Botafogo will be without him [Lodeiro] for Uruguay"s friendlies and in the preparation for the World Cup so it doesn"t make sense to loan him for six months," he said, as reported by ShanghaiDaily.com. "He is going to stay and the case is closed."
Lodeiro joined Botafogo from Ajax for an undisclosed fee in July 2012. Last season he made 26 appearances, scoring five goals.
