Monaco striker Radamel Falcao has spoken after suffering anterior cruciate ligament damage to his left knee following a tackle in his team 3-0 victory over Monts d’Or Azergues in the Coupe de France on Wednesday night.
The Columbian hotshot was carried off on a stretcher and it has been confirmed that he needs surgery and is extremely doubtful for the World Cup.
Using his twitter page to thanks his fans, Falcao said his hopes were now in the hands of God.
The 27-year-old added: “I want to thank you all for the messages of support that happened to me over the last few hours all around the World. The affection you bear me with has touched me in the highest degree.
“I will not hide that my sadness is huge, my heart is destroyed, but my World Cup dream is still alive. God makes the impossible possible and I believe in him.”
Although the Monaco forward believes he could make the summer tournament, it looks increasingly unlikely. The prognosis for ACL injuries is normally between six and nine months.
Even the minimum amount of recovery time would make his World Cup dream unlikely. We can only hope that a player of Falcao’s stature is lucky and is afforded the chance of playing in a South American World Cup.
