Brazilian defender Luis Felipe has lambasted his Atletico Madrid colleagues after they missed the chance to go top of La Liga following a 1-1 home draw with Sevilla.

With fellow pace setters Barcelona slumping to an away draw at Levante, Los Colchoneros knew that victory over the Seville side would take them to the summit.

David Villa’s operner was cancelled out by Ivan Rakitic and Luis Felpie believes Atletico can ill afford to have similar results towards the completion of the season.

Speaking with goal.com, he said: “We had a good chance to go top, but there is still a long way to go.”

“We are now a target and it is very difficult to compete with Real Madrid and Barcelona.”

Should Atletico manage to win La Liga, it would go down as one of the more remarkable achievements of any team in recent history. No team outside the ‘Big Two’ has won the Spanish title since Valencia in 2004.

Atleticp’s Felipe, who has four caps, will be hoping that a strong end to the campaign will cement his place in Brazil’s World Cup squad.
