Thiago Silva, the 2013 Samba Gold winner, and compatriot Daniel Alves have made FIFA’s team of the year for 2013.

Despite the expectations of many, Bayern Munich were not the outfit most represented in the team selected by FIFPro. Whilst three players from the Bavarians made the list, there were four representatives from usual suspects Barcelona.

Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid players made up the rest of the team meaning that only four clubs were represented in total.

Choices were limited to ‘goalkeepers’, ‘defenders’, ‘midfielders’ and ‘attackers’ which explains the absence of a left-back or holding midfielder from those selected.

The line-up in full: Neuer (Bayern Munich), Lahm (Bayern Munich), Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid), Thiago Silva (PSG) and Daniel Alves (Barcelona); Iniesta (Barcelona), Xavi (Barcelona) and Ribéry (Bayern Munich); Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid), Ibrahimovic (PSG) and Messi (Barcelona).
