Vasco da Gama have signed a four-year sponsorship deal with Japanese motor-manufacturing giant Nissan.

The deal is thought to be worth in the region of US$3.5 million a year to the club and the car-maker’s logo will feature on the team shirts.

Nissan will also receive exposure on the team’s training kit, travel equipment, on the team’s website and across its social networking channels.

Vasco da Gama president Roberto Dynamite hailed the agreement as “very significant” for the team, adding: “I’m sure that this partnership will be victorious.”

Meanwhile, François Dossa, the president of Nissan Brazil, pointed to the organisation’s shared passions for “diversity, social responsibility” as well as “social transformation” as the most valuable elements of the tie-up.

Vasco are currently lying in tenth place after a poor start to the 2013 Brasileirão but the club’s board will be hoping that the sponsorship deal will alleviate some of their debts.
