Palmeiras right-back Welder is very close to joining Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon, according to reports in Brazil and Portugal.
Welder will be loaned to Sporting Lisbon for a season, Sporting Lisbon will have an option to buy him once the loan deal is over.
The right-back has not been able to establish himself at Palmeiras, and a loan deal is expected to help him revive his career.
Weldinho, as he is known as in Brazil, recently said that he is eager to join Sporting Lisbon, a comment that surprised many at Palmeiras’ board.
He had joined Palmeiras in February, after playing for the club’s arch-rivals Corinthians. Palmeiras have more than 40 in the squad, and is thus considered surplus to requirement.
