Liverpool and Tottenham are leading the chase for Atlético Mineiro attacker Bernard according to reports in England.

The Daily Mail claims in an ‘exclusive’ that both clubs are prepared to make bids for the €25 million-rated player.

They claim that the two clubs have already enquired for the player and will now compete with Shakhtar Donetsk, FC Porto and Borussia Dortmund for Bernard.

Atlético Mineiro’s president Alexandre Kalil was on record earlier this summer claiming that €25m was the asking price for Bernard, with a €70m release clause according to some reports.

Kalil also claimed earlier this month that there were five offers on the table for Bernard, which is suspected to be the five clubs already reported to be interested above.

Liverpool and Tottenham will have to be wary of competition from FC Porto for the 20-year-old’s signature, with the Portuguese giants holding the advantage due to their links with third party investors BMG.

BMG own 50% of Bernard’s playing rights and have close links with Porto which could see them pay half the asking price for Atlético’s share.

But Liverpool and Spurs would have to pay the full fee as the FA have banned third party ownerships in England.
