Corinthians secured the Recopa Sudamericana title with a 2-0 win over São Paulo at the Pacaembu on Wednesday evening.

Goals from Romarinho and Danilo were enough to give the Timão a comfortable 4-1 aggregrate victory.

Romarinho turned in a rebound in the 35th minute after Paolo Guerrero’s shot was parried by the São Paulo goalkeeper.

Danilo then doubled their lead with a close range finish after his initial header was saved by Rogério Ceni.

Emerson Sheik was delighted to have won the event, which is contested by the winners of the Copa Libertadores and the Copa Sudamericana.

“This victory is testament to the wonderful way the club is run and the effort we have made to keep the group together since 2011,” the striker told reporters at the match.

Corinthians are currently performing below their usual standards in 12th place in the Brasileirão while Rio de Janeiro rivals São Paulo are in 14th place.
