Leonardo has resigned from the role of sporting director at PSG according to reports emerging from France.

BeIN Sport and L’Equipe are both reporting that the Brazilian has decided to depart the club in the wake of his nine-month ban for allegedly pushing a referee which was extended on appeal.

PSG have also confirmed the decision, reporting on their official website that Leonardo will leave his post “at the end of the transfer window”.

“We regret his choice but we respect his decision,” a club statement said on Wednesday morning as reports broke of the decision.

“PSG expresses their appreciation for his outstanding work in Paris to build a leading European club. We wish him continued success in his brilliant career.”

Leonardo will now be expected to take a break from football in light of his ban.
