Brazil internationals Dante and Luiz Gustavo will miss Bayern Munich’s German Cup final against Stuttgart due to international duty.

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) said that, under FIFA rules, the players have to be available for training 14 days before the Confederations Cup, which starts on June 15.

Therefore, the duo will miss the chance to complete an historic treble with the Bavarians, after their Bundesliga and Champions League title wins.

Carlos Alberto Parreira, Brazil’s technical director, told reporters: “This is a constant battle, with each side standing up for their interests.

“Bayern sent us a polite letter asking that the player be released and we politely responded that we are not making any exceptions.”

“The players are duty-bound to report. We’re not picking a fight, it’s a matter of obeying the rules.”

Brazil will play England in an international friendly at Rio’s revamped Maracanã stadium on Sunday before meeting France in Porto Alegre a week later.

The Confederations Cup kicks off six days after when the Seleção take on Japan in Brasilia, before facing Italy and Mexico.
