Barcelona’s Dani Alves has hit out at critics labelling Neymar as ‘unprofessional’ and says their new signing is as humble as they come.
Neymar is set to put pen to paper on a new deal with the Catalan giants but has already come in for some criticism, most notably from former Barcelona legend Johan Cruyff.
But Alves insists that Neymar is a consummate professional and will play his part in Barcelona’s team for the next few years.
“Neymar isn’t a pop star. He’s competitive, he knows the demands of this club and he has come to play his part,” Alves was quoted as saying by AS after Barcelona’s 2-0 win over Espanyol.
“He’s very humble. He’s a star, but he’s very hard-working. We’ll all help him and he’ll help us. I respect Cruyff but he doesn’t know Neymar. There won’t be two captains of this ship.”
