Grêmio’s highly rated defensive midfielder Fernando prefers to focus on the Confederations Cup despite speculation linking him with a move to Europe.

Clubs from Italy and Eastern Europe are believed to be interested in the midfielder, who shone in Brazil’s friendlies against Russia and Italy.

The midfielder, however, prefers to focus elsewhere, he talked with reporters after Grêmio’s 2-0 win against Náutico.

Fernando said: “A lot of things can happen. I am now going to the Confederations Cup.

“I will try to do my best to represent Brazil, and I will see what happens later.”

The midfielder is happy that Grêmio bounced back after getting eliminated from Copa Libertadores, Fernando said: “We have been talking a lot in the dressing room about having been eliminated from Copa Libertadores.

“But this is history now and we can’t change it. We have the Brazilian Cup and the national league ahead, our squad is strong.”
