Porto midfielder Fernando is hoping to follow his former teammates João Moutinho and James Rodriguez in leaving the Portuguese champions for a bigger challenge this summer, after the pair signed for French club Monaco on Friday.

Fernando, 25, has made no secret of his desire to move to a new club in a stronger European league but is willing to wait for the right oppourtunoity to come up.

He told Lancenet: “We thank God, we always attract clubs with the way we work. There is speculation from clubs from Italy, France, Germany … Always looking, but so far nothing official, and I still have another year of contract, let’s hope for the best outcome.

“If I stay at Porto I will also be glad and happy as they have always treated me well.”

The Brazilian was also confident the club would continue to succeed without two of their star performers.

He said: “Porto hardly gets weak. They sell two or three players and are still secure. The club depends on it, the sales….

“Porto is working to bring in these players and also to sell. The rest certainly will remain and Porto always has strong teams to win titles.”
