Roy Hodgson has called up Manchester City midfielder Jack Rodwell for the upcoming friendly against Brazil at the Maracanã.

The former Everton star replaces the injured Tom Cleverley who was forced to withdraw from the England squad for the friendlies Brazil and France.

The call-up is reward for Rodwell’s superb performance against Norwich City as he netted twice in a 3-2 defeat.

The first came as a simple strike past the Norwich goalkeeper in the middle of the box but the second was a sensational finish after sprinting the full length of the pitch to latch onto Yaya Toure’s pass.

Luiz Felipe Scolari is also making preparations for the June 2 clash as the Brasileirão campaign starts next weekend.
