Vasco’s under 16 team were subjected to racist abuse by Juventus youth players as they were facing the Italian team for the Cittá di San Bonifacio International Tournament.

The Brazilian team won the match 1-0 with a goal scored by Bruno Cosendey, but Juventus players racially abused Vasco players throughout the match, by calling them ‘monkeys’.

Vasco have officially protested, expressing their disgust over the events that happened during the match and demanding that the tournament’s organization severely punish those responsible for the racist abuse.

They released a note signed by club’s president Roberto Dinamite describing the incidents and reminding that UEFA, FIFA and other football organizations want to kick racism out of football.

Vasco also mentioned that they were the first team in Brazil to sign players from African descent, thus being one of the first to fight against racism in football.

Besides beating Juventus 1-0, Vasco also beat A.C. Sambonifacese 4-1.

The tournament includes other traditional teams such as Inter Milan, AC Milan, Real Madrid, Arsenal and Barcelona.
