Former Brazil manager Dunga has urged Brazilian fans to support the national team, as fans booed off the players during Wednesday’s game against Chile.

Brazil’s national team have been facing hostility from Brazilian fans in recent years, and it has become common for the Seleção to feel as an away team in the games played at home.

Indeed, many Brazilian players have pointed out that away games are easier to play than those played in Brazil.

Dunga experienced this situation when he was the national team manager and believes fans should act differently. He told press: “The World Cup will be played in Brazil, so fans have to support Brazil.”

“The fans don’t have to support ‘A’ or ‘B’, but the national team as a whole. It doesn’t matter if the players they wanted are not in the team.”

“They have to support as the tournament will be played at home. We have to create a positive atmosphere for the national team.”

Dunga believes fans should support all players, he said: “It’s pointless to say that any of us was right, that a certain player wouldn’t play well.”

“It’s our country that will be on the pitch, our previous expectations don’t matter anymore. We have to support the national team.”

The current Internacional manager believes Brazilian fans support the national team only when they win, he said: “It’s easy to support when the team are winning, but the fans have to understand it’s a transition period, a delicate moment, and that the team need to be supported by everyone.”
