Wolfsburg’s midfielder Diego has been linked with a return to Spanish club Atlético de Madrid, but the German team’s Sporting Director Klaus Allofs wants to keep him at the club.

The former Santos midfielder has contract with Wolfsburg until 2014, he was loaned to Atlético de Madrid last season and was linked to Brazilian clubs Botafogo and Flamengo but finally stayed in Germany.

Wolfsburg’s Sporting Director Klaus Allofs is happy with his performances and believes Diego can be useful next season. He told Bild: “We need Diego, he must be an integral part of our sporting project”.

Diego has recently affirmed that he is flattered by the Atlético de Madrid rumors, but that he is focusing on his current club.

He started his career at Santos, where he famously partnered with Robinho, winning the Brazilian League in 2002.

The midfielder later played for Porto, Werder Bremen and Juventus, before joining Wolfsburg in 2010.
